The Academy is a 36,370 SF licensed early childhood education center operated on campus by Parkwood Day School Programs — a Kansas City–area nonprofit that has served families across the metro for years. Drop your kid off downstairs on the way to coffee, not on the way across town.

Childcare is a single biggest barrier to working-family stability in the Northeast — and the Northeast has been a daycare desert for years. Families who live here drive 20+ minutes each way for care that should be part of daily life, not a logistical event.

Parkwood Day School Programs is a nonprofit early childhood provider built around a simple principle: developmentally appropriate, accessible childcare for every family, regardless of income. Sliding-scale tuition, full participation in federal and state subsidy programs, and curriculum aligned with Missouri Early Learning Standards mean The Academy works for the family that needs full subsidy AND the family paying full tuition — in the same classroom, with the same teachers.

The Academy serves children from 0 to 12 — early childhood through after-school care — so families with multiple kids in different stages get one drop-off and one pickup.

The Clinic at Historic Northeast Lofts is a Federally Qualified Health Center operated by KC CARE Health Center — bringing primary care, dental, behavioral health, and a pharmacy to the same campus where you live. Open to residents and to the broader Northeast community.

KC CARE was founded in the 1980s as a clinic that took care of patients no one else would. Their commitment to the Northeast goes back decades — they've operated a neighborhood clinic on Independence Avenue for over ten years, in a space they took over from a retiring physician who served the same patients for 23 years.

The new Clinic doubles their square footage and adds dental, behavioral health, and pharmacy services to the medical care they already provide. The same team. Twice the capacity. Steps from your door.

A 23-year Northeast physician on the new clinic

Dr. Elaine Joslyn opened her practice on Independence Avenue in 1994. She served the Northeast for 23 years, then handed her practice to KC CARE Health Center so the work could continue. Today she's championing the new clinic that will open on the same corridor she served — operated by the team she trusted with her patients.

A health and wellness center, operated by Elevation Health.

The Commons is a 59,307 SF health and wellness community center operated by Elevation Health — a professional facility management company that builds fitness, recovery, and wellness programming for communities. Everything you'd expect from a great gym, plus programming built specifically for families, kids, and seniors. Sliding-scale membership makes it accessible to every resident.

Kansas City winters are real. A neighborhood that promises a complete life within a five-minute walk has to mean that life works in January as well as June. The Commons gives every resident a place to run, play soccer with their kid, lift, recover, or just gather — without driving across town and without a membership that prices out the families who'd benefit most.

Elevation Health, the operator, specializes in community-focused wellness facilities. The programming is designed around the people who actually live here: kids who need a place to play indoors after school, parents who need a workout that fits a working life, and older residents who need low-impact strength and balance work to keep their independence.

The Market — public food hall with locally owned vendors and communal seating

A public market for the Northeast, developed by Nomad.

The Market is a public food hall developed by Nomad Develops — the team behind the Lenexa Public Market — bringing locally owned vendors, fresh groceries, and gathering space to a neighborhood that has been underserved for decades.

The Northeast has talented entrepreneurs and not enough places to operate. The neighborhood lost most of its mainstream grocery infrastructure decades ago; the result is families who shop for groceries in three separate trips because no one place has what they need.

Nomad Develops built the Lenexa Public Market into a destination for the entire south metro — a food hall where local restaurants get a starting platform and where neighbors meet for a meal. The Market at Historic Northeast Lofts brings that same model to the Northeast, with vendor spaces prioritized for Northeast-based and Kansas City–based entrepreneurs.

A real food hall, anchored locally, run by people who've done it before.

The Green is the campus's central courtyard — landscaped, with fountains, seating, and gathering areas designed for use, not for show. The kind of outdoor space a neighborhood actually lives in.

Most apartment courtyards are decoration. The Green is infrastructure — the pedestrian spine that connects every amenity on campus, the spot where you eat your lunch from The Market, where your kid runs around after pickup at The Academy, and where the neighborhood gathers when it wants to gather.

Connected to the City

Historic Northeast Lofts sits on Independence Avenue, one of Kansas City's most important corridors — connecting the Historic Northeast to downtown, the Crossroads, and employment centers across the metro.

Today, the campus is served by RideKC's 24 bus line, which runs the Independence Avenue corridor and connects directly to downtown, the River Market, the East Bottoms, and the central business district — putting residents within reach of more than 40,000 service, manufacturing, and government jobs without a car.

The Independence Avenue corridor is the proposed route for the Green Line BRT — a future Bus Rapid Transit line that, if funded, would dramatically increase frequency and speed along this same corridor. Construction timing is still pending KCATA and federal funding decisions.
